Prepare for OP-17 according to your real objective
With OP-17 — The World’s Strongest Warriors officially releasing on August 28, 2026, it can be tempting to purchase several products immediately without setting a clear priority. However, competitive players, collectors and beginners do not have the same needs.
The best way to prepare is to answer one simple question first: do you want to discover the set, build a specific deck or collect particular artwork? The answer will help you choose between booster packs, individual cards and participation in a release event.
Open booster packs to discover the set
Booster packs remain the most exciting way to discover OP-17. Each pack contains a random selection of cards and may provide both useful deck pieces and special versions for a collection.
This approach is particularly suitable for people who enjoy opening packs, want to explore several colours or are starting an OP-17 collection without immediately targeting one exact deck. It still involves uncertainty: Bandai states that duplicate cards may appear and that opening products does not guarantee completion of the full set.
Players should also avoid purchasing products on the basis of unofficial pull-rate claims. The product page confirms the available rarity categories, including Treasure Rare, Secret Rares and Special Cards, but it does not guarantee one specific card in a pack or a fixed number of premium cards in every display.
Choose singles when building a specific deck
If your goal is to play one particular Leader, singles are often the most direct way to complete a deck list. A Rocks.D.Xebec deck requires a high concentration of Rocks Pirates cards. A black Luffy deck will mainly look for Elbaph cards and Characters capable of reaching the 12-cost threshold. Buying without a target can therefore leave you with many cards that do not contribute to the original project.
A balanced approach is to open a few boosters for enjoyment, then complete the deck with the missing singles. Before making a large purchase, prepare a provisional deck list, check the official English text of each card and count the copies already in your collection.
Remember that a playable card does not need to be an alternate-art version. The standard version has the same card text and fulfils the same role in a deck. Parallel versions are primarily an aesthetic or collector preference.
Double Pack Set Vol.12: another way to begin
The Double Pack Set Vol.12, also scheduled for August 28, 2026, contains two OP-17 booster packs and one DON!! card featuring one of two new designs. The packaging can also be used as a small storage box.
This product is designed for players and collectors who want a limited opening experience with an additional collectible item. It does not replace a Starter Deck and does not improve the odds of obtaining one particular OP-17 card. It is simply a different presentation of two booster packs accompanied by an exclusive-style DON!! card.
Attend the fourth-anniversary release event
Bandai is holding local store events to celebrate both the release of OP-17 and the game’s fourth anniversary. The official event period runs from August 21 to September 13, 2026. Depending on the participating store, the tournament may use a Constructed or Sealed format under Standard Regulation.
Participating gives players an opportunity to test the new cards against other decks and discover early deck-building ideas. Announced participation prizes include a fourth-anniversary Tournament Pack, a P-110 Monkey.D.Luffy promotional card, a fourth-anniversary Leader Card and World United DON!! Cards. The winner may receive a silver-foil, gold-stamped version of P-110 Monkey.D.Luffy.
The exact registration process is managed by each store. Bandai encourages players to register through Bandai TCG+, but also states that they should contact the store directly to confirm their place and local conditions. A Bandai Namco ID is required to register through TCG+.
How to prepare for an OP-17 event
Before travelling to the store, check which format the organiser has selected. For a Constructed event, you will need a legal deck that follows the event rules. For Sealed, deck construction will depend on the products supplied at the venue and the specific rules communicated by the organiser.
You should also bring the essential playing equipment:

opaque card sleeves in good condition;

the required DON!! cards;

a clear way to track Life cards and temporary effects;

your TCG+ identification and registration details;

spare sleeves in case one becomes damaged.
Read the official rules and FAQ before the tournament. OP-17 contains several effects involving high costs, power reductions, discards and choices made by the opponent. Understanding the exact resolution order helps prevent gameplay mistakes.
Protect the cards you open
A card intended for a deck should be sleeved quickly to prevent marks that could make it identifiable during a game. For a collectible card, use at least one clean sleeve, followed by a toploader or another rigid holder when its value or personal importance justifies the additional protection.
Avoid unnecessary contact with foil surfaces and store cards away from humidity, direct heat and sunlight. To organise the set, sort the main new references from OP17-001 to OP17-119 by card number, then keep parallel variants and Special Cards that reprint earlier references in separate sections.
A simple purchasing strategy for each type of fan
